Treadmill Doctor’s Treadmill of the Year for 2017 NordicTrack Commercial 1750

Have you ever been to China? We have been several times and it is amazing when you go to one of their HUGE, modern cities with dozens of high rise buildings all in a row and concrete and glass as far as the eye can see. When you go outside the modern metropolis though, you quickly encounter China from 50 years ago with some of the most devastating poverty I have personally ever witnessed. So what does this have to do with our treadmill reviews? We find it interesting that with our revised format, our first treadmill of the year is now manufactured in China.

We have seen a bunch of treadmills in the last 20 years, to put it in the southern vernacular and we service them and sell parts for them every day. Back 20 years ago, people wrote us unsolicited to try to get us to share our knowledge with them when they were on the hunt to buy a new one. It’s like asking the appliance repair man which washer and dryer is in his house or judging the car salesman if he drives the same brand he sells.

The NordicTrack Commercial 1750 is Treadmill Doctor’s Treadmill of the Year for 2017.

What makes this machine the best treadmill for 2017? The truth of the matter is that this isn’t the perfect machine for everyone but this is the perfect machine for most everyone. It is a reasonably priced machine at $1,499 which is near the lower end of range for treadmills and is close to the bottom of what we would consider a quality machine. When you get closer to the $1,000 price point, we would never recommend jogging or running on a machine or even doing serious mileage while walking on the low end machines. You really need the quality closer to $1,500 in order to be able to do that kind of training work.

The last two treadmills that I have bought for my house were made by this factory. Both of those machines were made in the USA but mainly with all the major components coming from China. Icon, the factory behind the NordicTrack brand, finally decided to close their major factory in Utah and make the entire machine in China. In some respects it made sense due to most all of the major components already being made there. With proper design, the shipping costs wouldn’t outweigh the savings of the labor and fewer shipments of parts and the like.

Are we celebrating this fact? No. With that said, it is understandable. Back to the machine, the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 gives you a monster running surface, a monster motor, and monster value for the money. The downside of this machine is dual…they pack a ton of technology into this machine with the touchscreen and interactive programs driven by the internet so there is more complexity that can go wrong and the second downside is that this factory sells millions of pieces of exercise equipment a year so if you do have a problem, you can expect a Comcast level of service. They take care of the problem but you develop a new religion in the process.

Even with a couple of shortcomings, this is the most compelling treadmill on the market for most people. It gives you a great value for the mixture of quality and features that it has plus it has an incredibly long warranty at such an affordable price point. That’s what makes it Treadmill Doctor’s Treadmill of the Year for 2017.
